National Park Tablas de Daimiel with its 3.030 ha is the smallest park in Spain located in the hearth of A.C. Castilla La-Mancha on the central plateau.
Designated National Park in 1.973 later was declared biosphere reserve and in 1.982 Las Tablas entered the list of the Ramsar Convention.

This unique place, an oasis in semi-arid landscape of central plateau, is a consequence of overflowing of rivers Guadiana & Gigüela supplying this way huge wetland rich in fauna and flora.
The confluence of these rivers cause special chemical character of wetland because of their different salinity:
Gigüela – supplying the brackish water during the winter with high salinity, but still lower than salinity of ocean.
Guadiana – supplying sweet water the whole year through natural aquifer NR. 23, called Ojos de Guadiana: underground layer of fractured rock able to supply water to Tablas.
Location: Municipality of Daimiel and Villarubia de los Ojos, Ciudad Real Province, Castilla La-Mancha (MAP).
Surface: 3.030 ha of protected area (approx. 1.800 ha of wetland)
Fauna: Wild Pig, Red Fox, European Toad, Water Snake, Pike, Carp, Chub, Fire Salamander …etc…
- Migratory Birds – Purple Heron, Shoveler, Pintail, Zitting Cisticola …etc…
- Resident Birds – Little Bittern, Common Coot, Bearded Reedling …etc…
Flora: Over 300 species is documented around the National Park. The distribution depends on salinity, depth of water or type of soil.
Most common ones: Sea-Lavender, French Tamarisk, Typha, Common Reed, Rushes …etc…
Self-made Tours: Free of charge, the National Park is crossed by wooden paths divided in 3 different loops between 1.5 KM and 4 KM. Plenty of viewpoints and shelters are perfect to get a charming snack in nature.
