White grape originally from Spain, region around river “Río Guadiana” (Extremadura). Covers around 21.492 ha (2023). Known as Jaén, Cayetana Blanca, Xarello and other.

Description: Medium and compact bunch of conic shape, Very productive, Medium resistance to dry conditions, Late ripening, Sensitive to some diseases.

Profile: Slightly sweet, Low acidity, Resistant to hot and dry conditions, Resistant to Phylloxera, Pallid yellow color, Higher alcohol content.

Aromas: Intense aromatic grape variety with notes of apple and bananas and white flowers.

Main Regions: 90% of grapes are cultivated around Extemadura (Province of Badajoz).

Other Regions: Small cultivated areas are in Jerez (Brandy production), Montilla-Moriles and Huelva.

Blending: Mostly produced monovarietal wines, blended with Macabeo or Cayetana.
