Spain, pretty famous for its gastronomy, beach holidays and tremendous historical heritage, is the 4th most mountainous country in Europe following Switzerland, Austria and Greece.

The center of Spain is a plateau called “Meseta Central”, the largest and oldest part with average altitude around 600 m.a.s. This part is surrounded by other mountainous systems:
- Pirineos (Pyrenees) – north, border with France
- Sistema Ibérico (Iberian System) – between Meseta Central and Pyrenees
- Sistema Bético (Baetic System) – southern part of Spain
- Sierra Morena – between Meseta Central and Baetic System
- Cordillera Cantábrica – northwest of Spain
