Spanish Mazuelo Grape
Spanish grape, recently more common in France. Takes up on 5.776 ha (2023). Known as “Mazuela, Carignan, Samsó, Carinena”.

Description: Huge bunch of grape, Compact one, Highly productive, Intensive blue color, Less resistant to diseases, Resistant to dry conditions. Perfect aging abilities.

Profile: Dry, Medium bodied, Medium-High acidity, Higher tannins, Higher alcohol content, Deep garnet color.

Aromas: Raspberry, Cranberries, Licorice, Nuts, Flavor of Rosemary.

Main Regions: Catalonia (D.O.Ca. Priorat, D.O. Terra Alta, D.O Penedés), Aragón (D.O. Carinena).

Other Regions: In D.O.Ca. La Rioja is cultivated to be blended with Tempranillo.

Although originally from Spain, Mazuelo is widely popular and cultivated in France (Languedoc-Roussillón, Aude, Gard, Hérault) where held the biggest area. Even cultivated in Israel, México and U.S.A (California, Texas, Washington, Missouri).

Blending: In Spain is a blending partner for Tempranillo grapes.
