Red variety originally from D.O. Utiel-Requena in Valencia Province known since 15th century. Spanish red grape covering 53.452 ha (2023).

Description: Bunch of grapes rather large than medium, Highly productive, Resistant to local hot climate of Levant, Resistant to plague.

Profile: Dry, Medium acidity, High tannins, Lower alcohol content, Deep cherry color, Suitable aging abilities.

Aromas: Light aroma of red fruits – raspberries and strawberries, Cherry, Herbs, Licorice.

Main Regions: Being native to D.O. Utiel-Requena (Valencian Community), there is major cultivated area reaching 75% of total planted surface. Even spread around Valencian Community.

Other Regions: Castilla-La Mancha (D.O. Manchuela, D.O. Ribera del Júcar), Community of Madrid (D.O. Madrid).

Blending: Blended with Garnacha and Tempranillo.
