Spanish Airén
The most planted white grape in Spain, with area of 190.085 ha (2023). Known as Manchega, Lairén, Valdepenera, Forcayat.

Description: Large grape bunch, Resistant to dry climate of inland, Resistant to plagues, Resistant to low fertile fields, Highly productive, Bit late harvest.

Profile: Medium-Light body, Low acidity, Low tannins, Pallid yellowish color of wine, Low alcohol content.

Aromas: Low aromatic grape with notes of Banana, Apple, Grapefruit, Pineapple, Floral flavor of Rose.

Main Regions: Most characteristic wine grape of central Spain being cultivated above all in Castilla-La Mancha (D.O. La Mancha, D.O. Valdepenas) and then in Community of Madrid (D.O. Madrid).

Other Regions: Authorized even in Murcia, Andalucía and Valencia.

Blending: Often blended with stronger varieties like Viura, Cencibel, Verdejo, Malvasía, Sauvignon Blanc.
